In this guide you'll download the DeskPress plugin, install it on your WordPress site, activate it, and enter your license key. The whole process takes about two minutes.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
- WordPress 5.0 or higher -- You can check your version under Dashboard > Updates.
- PHP 7.1 or higher -- Most modern hosts meet this requirement. If you're unsure, ask your hosting provider or check under Tools > Site Health > Info > Server.
- A Help Scout account -- You'll need this to connect DeskPress to your helpdesk. If you don't have one yet, you can sign up at helpscout.com.
Step 1: Download the Plugin
If you purchased DeskPress from our website, download the plugin ZIP file from your account page. Save it somewhere easy to find on your computer (like your Downloads folder).
Step 2: Upload and Install
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Add New.
- Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.
- Click Choose File and select the DeskPress ZIP file you downloaded.
- Click Install Now.
- Wait for WordPress to finish installing. You'll see a success message when it's done.
Step 3: Activate the Plugin
- After installation, click the Activate Plugin button.
- You'll notice a new DeskPress menu item in your WordPress admin sidebar. That means the plugin is active and ready to configure.
Step 4: Enter Your License Key
- In the admin sidebar, go to DeskPress > System.
- Click the License tab.
- Paste your license key into the License Key field. You can find this key in the purchase confirmation email or on your account page.
- Click Activate License.
- You should see a confirmation message telling you the license is active. This enables automatic updates and access to premium features.
Troubleshooting
- "Upload failed" error -- Make sure the file you're uploading is a ZIP file (not unzipped). Also check that your server allows file uploads of that size.
- "Plugin could not be activated" error -- This usually means your PHP version is too old. Contact your host to upgrade to PHP 7.1 or higher.
- License won't activate -- Double-check that you copied the full license key without extra spaces. If the problem persists, reach out to our support team.
